Brighton & Hove City Council
Deputation Request – Licensing Committee June 24 2021
Purpose of Deputation
To address Licensing Committee Councils on the current state of the
trade with non-Brighton & Hove licensed vehicle predominantly
working in the city.
Andrew Peters -
Brighton & Hove Taxi Trade Association
I shall be including the following
points:
The main purpose of the Deputation is to ensure that all licensing committee members are fully aware of the total loss of licensing control for the protection of the public using taxis/private hire vehicles in the city. Including giving the public a false sense of security where locally licensed vehicles have cctv and out of town cars do not.
TfL registered
vehicles predominantly working here under no known Operator.
Cars
with expired TfL licences working here under no known
Operator.
Requesting
a full and thorough investigation by Licensing to compile a report
of what vehicles are predominantly working in the city.
Lack of support for the local licensed trade to restrict bus lanes
to those drivers and proprietors that pay the council licence fees
and abide by local conditions of licensing. We were told by Traffic
Management that this is possible but as yet nothing has been take
forward.
Supported by Registered Trade Reps (verified with Democratic Services)
